For more than 60 years, A&E Fire & Security has been protecting businesses, schools, public buildings and communities across Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties.
The company was founded in 1965 by Ed Stallard’s grandfather, starting out as a small fire extinguisher sales and maintenance business after the family relocated from Devon and settled in Gloucestershire. The second generation joined in the 1980s, bringing electrical expertise and expanding into fire alarm installation and maintenance. In 2000 the business moved to its current base at Bamfurlong Industrial Park, near Gloucestershire Airport.
Ed Stallard started as a trainee engineer at 14, working the business during school and college holidays. He joined full-time in 2006 and became Managing Director in 2016. Under his leadership the company has grown from a traditional fire protection business into a full fire and security specialist — adding CCTV, intruder alarms, access control, fire risk assessments and fire safety training alongside its original fire extinguisher and fire alarm services.
Today A&E employs over 100 people, including around 40 engineers on the road every day across Gloucestershire and the Three Counties, carrying out installations, maintenance and emergency call-outs — backed by a 24-hour emergency response service.
Our clients span every sector — schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, care homes, local authorities, housing providers, shopping centres, manufacturers and large residential estates. What they have in common is a building full of people who need protecting.
As the fire and security sector consolidates, with many independent firms bought up by national operators, A&E remains one of the region’s few sizeable independent providers — still family owned, still answerable to nobody but our customers. We combine the personal service of a local company with the stock holdings, expertise and emergency response capacity to support large organisations and complex estates.

We hold a Royal Warrant by Appointment to His Majesty King Charles III for fire fighting and fire detection services, alongside NSI Silver, BAFE and IFSM accreditation.
